Argentina is predominantly Spanish-speaking, with Rioplatense Spanish serving as the main national variety used in media, education, and everyday life. Indigenous languages such as Quechua, Guaraní, Mapudungun, Wichí, and others are spoken by smaller communities, particularly in the north and south of the country. There are also immigrant languages with historical roots, including Italian, German, Welsh, and various Eastern European languages, although many of these have declined in daily use. Most Argentines are monolingual in Spanish, but bilingualism exists in areas with strong indigenous or cross-border cultural ties.

Argentina has a relatively urbanized and aging population compared with many other Latin American countries. Large metropolitan areas like Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Rosario dominate the demographic landscape, concentrating economic activity and cultural life. The population is largely descended from European immigrants, mixed with indigenous and other ancestries, though the visibility of indigenous communities varies by region. Migration patterns, including internal migration from rural areas and neighboring countries, influence linguistic diversity in certain border provinces and urban neighborhoods.
